Welcome to Stereorolls!

This site is dedicated to preserving an often overlooked corner of stereo photographic history – stereo film rolls; specifically the film rolls produced by 2 English companies in the 1950s, True-View and Sightseer – both now largely forgotten.

Unlike the more familiar View-Master, this format, originating in the USA, featured three-dimensional images in black and white (not colour) that were stored on rolls of 35mm transparency film. These rolls, mainly featuring scenes and subjects from the British Isles, were then fed through a specially designed viewer.

Neither the films nor the viewers are easy to find today and there isn’t an awful lot of information out there, so our goal is to collect and digitally preserve these increasingly fragile and delicate film rolls and make the images accessible for everyone to enjoy.

On the site you will find:

  • Historical information on the companies that made them
  • Guides to the viewers and films
  • A growing archive of digitised stereo photographs taken from the original rolls
